6.000 € from the Restaurant RODER, Perlé for new infrastructures
When Romaine and Laurent RODER re-opened thei new Restaurant in Perlé, they asked their invitees not to offer them flowers but to do a donation to the children of Bonnievale instead. Our whole team was almost left speachless when they were announced the result of 6.000 € during a meeting in the Restaurant. A.Zeimen promised the young couple that the money will be invested in new classrooms as more and more children come to the project and space is very limited. Thank you to Romaine and Laurent, and to all the donators for this phantastic donation !

Saving the world begins in the local community
A student from the International School of Luxembourg (ISL) was one of four girls to be recognised with an award for their voluntary and community work at a ceremony on Thursday.
Anna Thomassen, 16, received the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs award for her work coaching young people in Luxembourg with learning disabilities to play basketball with the not for profit organisation ZAK. She first got involved with the project two years ago when she decided that she wanted to “save the world.”
“I played basketball at school and now I'm working with these people. They were so adorable, nice and caring,” Anna told wort.lu/en, adding: “It (volunteering with ZAK) shows you can work on a very local level. You don't have to go to Tanzania, for example, to save the world.”
Anna, who is originally from Norway, was also recognised for her contributions to the Global Issues Network, an ISL initiative aimed at making young people more aware of global issues, and her work in decorating an orphanage in Moshi, Tanzania, as part of a school trip for which she helped fundraise.
The student received a cheque for 500 euros which she will put towards a pasta party for her friends at ZAK, with the remainder to be kept aside for her planned university studies in medicine.
Anna is one of a handful of students from the ISL to receive the award in recent years. Director Chris Bowman, said that this trend was a reflection of the school's philosophy. “I think one of the things is that the opportunities are there, things like the Global Issues Conference and charity projects. It becomes natural for the students to get involved,” he said.
Zonta International is a women's organisation founded in Luxembourg, which aims to advance the status of women around the world. Each year Luxembourg's four Zonta Clubs award four grants under the title 'Young Women in Public Affairs', to encourage teenage girls aged from 16 to 19 to use their initiative, show responsibility and altruism.
The other winners included Klara Bechet, from the Lycée Aline Mayrisch for her dedication to the Scouts and other charities, Sarah Diederich of the Lycée de Garçons Luxembourg for her work as vice president of student body CNEL and Françoise Medernach of the Athénée Luxembourg for her volunteer youth work and involvement in a project in South Africa.
Altogether the clubs received 10 applications this year for the awards.
Luxembourg's Multi-Culturel club president Kerstin Wagner said: “It's a pleasure to see that the traditional Luxembourg schools are developing the extra curricular side of things and focusing more towards international issues. Congratulations to all the families and tutors who have supported these candidates.”

People Forest Project Bonnievale
Thanks to the financial support of the "Parverband Schieren" and in cooperation with "Earthcall", a very nice project started in the beginning of 2013.
We launched our People Forest project on the outskirts of Bonnievale, South Africa on Saturday, the 23rd of February 2013. The township settlement (or what is also referred to as a “squatter camp”) is a very poor and small community residing in the mountains surrounding the town of Bonnievale. It has no running water, very little electricity and for the whole little town there is only one small block of communal toilets with two outside taps to serve all the needs of the community.

"Paréquipe Schieren" has been supporting the projects for a very long time. Thank you to all the team for their support !
BONNIE PEOPLE YOUTH HOLIDAY PROGRAM
... from 10th to 20th of December 2012
Approximately 40 - 60 young people of between 8 and 16 years old attended our Holiday Program. The shade provided by our beautiful trees, a watermelon treat and water games certainly helped to cool us all down when the days became too hot.
Fortunately, while having fun, we all soon forgot about the heat. To enhance teamwork we played volleyball and painted our Arts and Crafts Container, giving everyone an opportunity to make a very personal and unique contribution!
Discovering new and far-off places certainly created a lot of adventure, “danger” and excitement. We “travelled” to China and Italy. Cycling in Beijing provided a lot of fun, making lanterns, fans and flags proved to be easy, but eating our meals with chopsticks certainly created a challenge - one that the girls mastered with ease. On our “voyage” to Italy we had to endure a “shipwreck”, but managed to reach Italy’s beautiful shores in well- equipped “lifeboats” and - with Verdi’s beautiful opera music in the background - we made our very own original and tasty “pizzas”.
Other activities included the ever-popular “tolletjiebrei”, making art-dough gifts, participating in quiz games, painting, drawing and beadwork.
Through drama we taught life-skills and values and - to show that we care for others - we took the Christmas cards and gifts that we had made to the “Plakkerskamp” residents where we wished them all a blessed Christmas in song.
To everyone who participated – thank you ! To all our donors – we cannot undertake such activities without your contributions, interest and support.
As we continue to sow into the hearts of young people, may our Lord Jesus Christ, bless each and every one of these beautiful and very special children. May they all become the best that they can be!
Christa and Marloes
